Rev Dr Avril Hannah-Jones

Avril Hannah-Jones was ordained in 2008 and her first placement was at the Lancefield, Mount Macedon, Riddells Creek and Romsey Uniting churches. Previously Avril worked with young people as tutor and pastoral care coordinator at the University of Melbourne’s Janet Clarke Hall, and lived for six months as part of the World Council of Churches’ international community at Bossey, Geneva.

Avril is committed to ecumenism, inclusion, and social justice. She believes that the Christian story of a God who became human out of love for humanity and who is in God’s very self a community of love is the most exciting story ever told. Avril appreciates the breadth of the Uniting Church, which not only supports the full participation of people regardless of gender, sexuality, race and culture, but also twice allowed her to fill the Romsey church with people in sci-fi costumes. (The Church of Latter Day Geeks has moved to Williamstown with her.)
